Why New Year's Resolutions Won't Work

Have you come up with any New Year's resolutions this year? If not, it is totally okay not to do them. In this post I will explain why it is so. I think the most common/favorite resolutions have to do with losing weight, eating healthier, trying to distress or slow in life in general. I have a thing or two to say about slowing down. As you know, I got very sick this fall (you can read it in  here ), and as a result, suddenly I had a lot of time to think about life. It was a bit funny that somehow my life changed from being very busy and organised to being not busy at all. I have to say that at first it was hard for me to slow down because I am the kind of person who doesn't just sit around, instead I get things done. Period. But now I was in a place that I didn't have a choice. This pneumonia made me to stop everything and forced me to slow down. (Honestly, it was a real effort to go to a shower). I was too tired and all my energy went to fetching up a glass of water fro

6 Reasons Why I Blog

What is the purpose of this blog and why am I doing this? In this post you'll have answers to these questions..These are the things I keep asking myself from time to time when it gets so busy in our house. I have to admit that it takes a lot of time (more than I realized when I started blogging) to write these posts, take pictures and think of my schedule. Especially now when my last courses in the University starts, I am quite busy. However, I am very determined to keep this blog up and running.. Here are my reasons for blogging: To be inspired . Initially I started this because I wanted to share my knowledge and inspire people to make small, healthy choices in their lives. As I started to create texts, I found myself being inspired. There's so much to learn and so many positive things out there if you just focus on that, your life will change into better! I have had this idea of being a blogger so many times in my head, mainly because I love reading blogs, but there

My Christmas & Sneak Peak from Detox -Series

This Christmas: I enjoyed quiet evenings drinking tea covered with my warm new blanket. I walked around our neighborhood as I listened to Christmas carols and felt very emotional and grateful for everything ❤ I ate loads of Gingerbread cookies made by my son.  I rolled in cold snow after the sauna. It felt good and got my blood flowing like crazy. Made me think about starting ice swimming. I watched House of Cards on Netflix. I went to bed at 10 pm and rose early to go for a morning run. Damn it felt good to run again after suffering post-pneumonia flu. Just me, adrenalin and snow.                                                                                  Sneak peak from my Detox-series If you google "detox diet" you can get more than 6 million references. Or if you google "detox diet and any fruit" see what happens.. I bet there are detox diets available to every fruit 😁 This goes to show how popular detox now

Superfoods versus Supplements

Previously, I wrote  about supplements and the fact that do we really need them. I came to the conclusion that there are advantages in using them if it is done correctly. However, in that post I didn't mention how much people need certain vitamins and some might think that I take too much supplements. If you are interested on this matter, you can find a few research articles in here ,  here (b-vitamins)  and here (vitamin-C) . From my experience I can say that I think my supplement/vitamin intake is accurate because normally I don't get sick at all (if you don't include my  pneumonia which I got from my holiday trip).  What is my opinion about the commercial superfoods? I think the hype about them has descended and I personally have stopped using many of them and instead focused on just a few. Like any other hype about certain healthy food item, such as with superfoods, it is only a short amount of time which people will be obsessed about them. However, something g

What I Eat in a Day + Sweet Potato Soup Recipe

Here is a sneak peak about what I eat in a day. This is one of my typical weekend in terms of eating. This day didn't include any treats but I'll do a different what I eat -including these cravings. During work days, I'll either eat school lunch (if it is gluten-free) or I'll have my own lunch which is typically what I have prepared for my family the day before. I would like to eat salads for my lunch because I have noticed that it gives me good energy and a light feeling after eating it but I don't have time to prepare them in the mornings. As a result, I try to have a salad in the evenings and in the weekends as a lunch. See what I eat in a day to stay healthy: Breakfast Oatmeal porridge with flax seeds, berries and home-made apple jam. Protein pancake  * with home-made rhubarb jam and berries. A pot/ two big cups of  Mate  * tea. Lunch Salmon salad with spinach leaves, tomatoes, cucumber and pumpkin seeds. Avocado sauce: avocado, garlic, le

9 Tips How to Find Time for Exercise

Today I will share my tips how to find time for your workouts. Previously I mentioned that I don't believe in excuses when it comes to exercising. If it is important to you and if you want to maintain in good health, you will find time. It is all about determination. Same goes with committing to eating healthy. My favourite quote: "If you don't have time for exercise, you'll probably have to make time for illness."  Robin Sharma Going for a walk with my son 💗 Here are my tips: Have a morning workout. Try to arrange time to do it in the morning. It doesn't have to be more than 20-30 minutes long. Then you don't have to worry about it after work. It's done and you are committed. This way you'll have a nice kick start to your day. Try it at least once! This would be an ideal way to exercise for me because I love training in the morning and getting all pumped up.  Double the fun and do a workout with your children/spouse.  Get

I Quit Drinking Coffee and it Changed My Life

The U.S.Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says about 80 percent of U.S. adults take some form of caffeine every day. Accordingly, coffee is one of the most commonly used ingredients in the world. But caffeine does so much more than just keeping you awake. It’s a central nervous system stimulant that affects your body in numerous ways. So, let's talk about this and why drinking coffee might not be good for for you. While there has been numerous studies about the benefits of coffee, such as it increases alertness , lowers the risk of depression and reduces the risk of brain diseases , it has also negative effects on sleep and anxiety and it can cause headaches, panic attacks, adrenal fatigue, loss of energy, it can deprive minerals and vitamins from your body (read more on here ) As I mentioned before( here ), I quit drinking coffee last spring. Well, how did I get the idea to stop drinking coffee? After consuming my morning coffee, I noticed that at first it made me feel

How to Get Sugar out of Your Life + Raw Chocolate Recipe

With all the Christmas and New Year resolutions coming many people think that they should alter their diets and think about giving up on sugar. Personally I think that you shouldn't wait after the holidays and instead you should do it right away. This doesn't mean that you are not allowed to enjoy or indulge during the holidays. Quite the opposite! I live a balanced life and even though I want to be sugar-free most of the time, I have treats. I couldn't live ascetic life and deny myself everything and at the same time watch other people enjoy their sweets. No, no! Here I will give you my tips how to get sugar out of your life and live a balanced life. My tips Have a good smoothie. So simple!   If you want to wean yourself completely, it will take about two weeks and your taste buds

The 80/20 Rule and Its Benefits

Who has heard about the 80/20 Rule? This rule can be applied to several things in life: economics, time management, the quality of food and the relationship between exercise and diet. In this post I will write about the latter two. So, to start with the first one: the quality of food. Usually health care professionals advise you that 80% of the amount of food should be good and healthy food and 20 % of the amount of food "less" healthy food or the food which you crave. This way it sounds pretty easy: you don't deny yourself of anything and your food will mainly consist of healthy food. However, people get easily distracted by this if they are not keeping track at what they eat. People know how they should be eating but the problem is that when they allow themselves to eat by this 20%, it can get out of hand. By this I mean that when people allow themselves to eat unhealthy food, the cravings and addictions, especially to sugar, can stay so that when it is time to ea

10 Tips How to Get More Energy

Indeed. Winter is here. When it's getting quite dark here in Finland, many people feel more tired than before. Who can blame them? The decrease in daylight won't make you feel energetic and it is easier to snuggle into your couch and eat sweets or other food that you crave. This leads to this post: how to get more energy during this "dark" time or other time when you feel under the weather? For me personally, these "dark" seasons have always affected me but when I made some changes in my diet and in my "thoughts", I found out that these changes really made a difference in my life. Suddenly these changes of the seasons hadn't that big of an effect on me. I still felt energetic although November arrived. So, what did I do? My first tip is: exercise! Exercise has always been a part of my life in some forms but this time I made some changes in my exercise routines. I just exercised what I felt like doing: if I felt a bit sluggish but I di

How to Recover from Pneumonia?

Recovery smoothie: berries, kale, banana, sunflower seeds, protein powder As I mentioned before, it has been a month since I got sick. I have to admit that, for me not being able to workout for WHOLE month, has been a struggle. But as my lungs improved and I was able to breathe normally, I decide that I would not give into darkness. Instead, I decided to think only positively. Because this condition that I am in now, won´t last long. Soon I will be able to walk, then do some yoga, then do some bodyweight training, then go for a quick run and finally be able to play football or do BodyCombat. I just have to embrace this situation. This thinking has really improved my rehabilitation (is that a right word for this case?) Well, anyway, here are my tips how to recover from (any) flu or pneumonia. Be patient! If you feel like you are ready to go outside and walk a bit, don´t do it! Go back to bed under your covers and rest another day. I cannot highlight this enough. And this was ve

My first post

This is finally happening: I am starting my health blog! I am so excited that I could not sleep last night..So, why now? I have been thinking about blogging for the past two years but life has happened ☺ I have had so many changes during the last few years that I just didn´t have any energy to do anything extra. So, what has changed? I am still a busy mother of a six year old, I am working full-time as a teacher, finishing my Master's degree in English Language and Culture and I am also trying to work out 4-6 times in a week.. However, right now I have been on a sick leave for the past month because I have a pneumonia 😢😱 So during the last month I have had nothing but time to think everything! I will write a different post about how to recover from pneumonia but right now I will keep this short and sweet😏 What is this blog about? So, my blog will be about general well being, being fit and living a healthy life. I will give you tips, workouts, meal
